CLEEN Foundation Condemns Violent Attacks on Security Personnel; Calls for Increased Patriotism!

CLEEN Foundation is deeply concerned by the disturbing trends of attacks and incidents of violence against Security personnel who devote their lives to protecting the Citizens of Nigeria and safeguarding our National Integrity. Recently, Nigeria has witnessed an ugly trend of attacks on security forces by civilian groups in various parts of the country. These attacks are a significant threat to national security, public safety, and the rule of law. As such, it is imperative to address this issue comprehensively and effectively to ensure the safety of all citizens and the stability of our nation.

We condemn in strong terms the growing trend of assaults and killing of our uniform personnel as witnessed in the events of May 30, 2024, where five persons of the Nigerian Army were killed in Aba, Abia State by suspected members of the proscribed group, IPOB. Two Soldiers were physically assaulted by mobs at the popular Banex Plaza in Abuja on the 18th of May, which led to the shutting down of the bubbling plaza. Recall that in March, 17 military personnel were gruesomely murdered in the Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area in Delta State on the 14th of March, 2024.

These attacks and killings are one too many, out rightly unacceptable and has no place in a civilized society as it undermine the safety and security of our nation. While we understand the sensitivity of the relationship between the Nigerian people and the security forces, we urge all Nigerians to remain patriotic and honour the effort of our security officials, whose invaluable contributions to the protection of life and safety remains critical to economic growth and advancement. CLEEN Foundation hereby urges citizens of Nigeria to respect the rule of law and refrain from taking laws into their hands as the ripple effect of violence is detrimental to the development of any nation.

These attacks are driven by a complex interplay of factors, including local grievances, political dynamics, and socio-economic conditions. This assessment explores the causes, manifestations, and implications of civilian attacks on security forces.

While we appreciate the effort of security agencies at the frontline, we appeal to personnel to exercise restraint and professionalism in their operations. We call on the government and security agencies to investigate these incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.

CLEEN Foundation calls on all stakeholders in Nigeria to work together to secure the country’s future. We must ensure that everyone plays their part in promoting peace, security, and stability in the nation where respect for life and the rule of law prevail.

Nigeria is ours and ours alone to build.
