CLEEN Foundation Launches “Know Una Rights” Campaign in Edo Market Communities

Our Edo office flagged off the #KnowUnaRights Market Campaign at Uselu Market, with support from the ROLAC II Programme funded by the EU and implemented by International IDEA. The “Know Una Rights” Market Campaign is a grassroots civic-education initiative designed to raise awareness of citizens’ rights and available justice mec

hanisms. Targeting bustling market communities where women, youth, and traders converge daily, the campaign brings rights education directly to the people in spaces where they live and work.

The campaign officially kicked off in Edo State, signaling the start of a nationwide rollout. Edo’s vibrant market hubs—such as Uselu Market was selected as pilot sites because of its diverse populations, active trading networks, and high incidence of rights-related challenges, including harassment, gender-based violence, and extortion. The market leader warmly welcomed the team and gave full support for the campaign. Representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, NBA, ACJMC, the Nigeria Police Force, and the CSO Observatory were all in attendance. The campaign created a platform for traders to share their experiences and concerns on human rights, reinforcing why this work is needed.
