CLEEN Foundation Holds Inter-Agency Training on Criminal Justice Legislation in Edo State

Strengthening Nigeria’s criminal justice system starts with building the capacity of those who serve within it, hence why CLEEN Foundation held a three-day inter-agency training in Edo State to strengthen the understanding of criminal justice legislation among law enforcement officers. This training session highlighted the importance of staying informed about recent legislative changes and ensuring that all parts of the criminal justice system are working in sync. Topics covered included updates on new laws, best practices for implementation, and strategies to improve inter-agency communication. The program also emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, aiming to build trust between the public and the justice system.

Facilitated by experts including Prof. Emmanuel Imuetinyan Obarisiagbon, Professor of Criminology of the University of Benin and Hon. Justice Godwin Jeff Okundiamiya, the sessions covered the Administration of Criminal Justice Law and the Anti-Torture Act. Participants shared field experiences and explored practical ways to uphold human rights.

Supported by the ROLAC II Programme and funded by the European Union through International IDEA, the training reinforced CLEEN’s ongoing work to build a more accountable justice system.
