CLEEN Releases Election Security Threat Assessment Ahead of Anambra Governorship Election

Ahead of the November 8 Anambra governorship election, CLEEN Foundation, with support from the Open Society Foundation, released its Election Security Threat Assessment (ESTA). The recent release of the Election Security Threat Assessment by the CLEEN Foundation ahead of the Anambra Governorship Election highlights significant concerns and recommendations for ensuring a smooth electoral process. This assessment is part of their September newsletter, aiming to inform stakeholders about potential risks and necessary precautions.

One of the primary concerns is ensuring adequate security at polling stations and throughout the state to prevent intimidation and violence. CLEEN suggests deploying a well-trained and non-partisan security force to maintain order and protect voters. Furthermore, enhancing intelligence capabilities to anticipate and neutralize threats before they materialize is deemed critical. Presented by Dr. Salaudeen Hashim, the report identified trends such as politically motivated violence, cult-related activities, and institutional weaknesses. It recommended proactive steps to improve security coordination, prevent voter suppression, and strengthen trust among communities.

The report urged INEC, security agencies, traditional leaders, and civil society to act early and decisively. With the right interventions, Anambra can serve as a model for peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria.
