Prof. Ayo Atsenuwa

Professor Ayo Atsenuwa holds an LL.M. degree in Law and Development from University of Warwick and another LL.M. degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from University of London. She is a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Her work experience spans research and teaching at the university level, programming for development as well as NGO management. A Professor of Law at the University of Lagos, her fields of research and teaching interest are Human Rights, Criminal Justice, Gender Studies and Health Law.

Professor Atsenuwa has been an adjunct Professor on the collaborative LL.M. Programme in Human Rights and Development in Africa of the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa since 2012. She has also been involved with Legal Research and Resource Development Centre, a Nigerian human rights non-governmental organisation, since 1995 and served as its Executive Director for many years.

A strong advocate of law reform for development, she has consulted for the federal and state governments as well as various international and national organisations including UNDP, UNIFEM (now UNWomen), UNODC, UNOHCHR, Ford Foundation, DFID, USAID and CIDA on projects aimed at promoting criminal justice and human rights including gender rights and development.
