CLEEN Foundation to collaborate with police on Complaints Response Unit awareness

The CLEEN Foundation on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to ACP. Markus Ishaku Basiran, Head of Complaints Response Unit (CRU). A unit created by the police to resolve complaints against police officers in Nigeria.

Receiving CLEEN delegation, led by Mr. Peter Maduoma, the Director, Institutional Services, ACP. Markus Ishaku Basiran, explained how efforts to ensure police accountability to the society in the way they carry out their statutory duties, led to the establishment of (CRU).

He also pointed out, part of the challenge is lack of citizens’ awareness of the mechanisms the police have put in place for the society to report and communicate back to police hierarchy on the behaviours of police officers.

The Assistant Commissioner of police also disclosed that the police compile and publish reports gotten from the citizens and sent to CRU quarterly and appealed to the public to ensure they read the reports and have the knowledge of what the police are doing to be accountable to the society they serve.

Other police officers who received CLEEN
delegation were, SP. Albert Ndulue I., 2 Y and ASP Aliyu A. Umar.

However, other CLEEN staff in the delegation were, Mrs. Chigozirim Okoro-Assistant Program Manager, Mr. Liberty Oseni-Senior Communications & Campaign Manager and Mr. Nnamdi Odo-Program Officer Monitoring and Evaluation.

CLEEN Foundation at the meeting committed to working with CRU, for improved mandate delivery. And, that will enable Nigerians to access the unit, and improve police community relationship.
