ECOWAS Protocol on Free Movement of Persons

The ECOWAS Protocol on Free Movement of Persons is a regional legal agreement adopted in May 1979 by ECOWAS Member States to progressively abolish barriers to the free movement of people within the ECOWAS region. Its overall aim is to promote deeper socio-economic integration by ensuring citizens of Member States enjoy mobility rights similar to those within a single community.
