CLEEN Foundation Marks National Police Day with Solidarity Message to NPF, Calls for Continued People Centred Reforms and Build Public Trust
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Management, and Staff of CLEEN Foundation, we join the nation in commemorating the National Police Day. This day, set aside to honour the men and women of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), offers a significant opportunity for reflection, recognition, and recommitment to the ideals of public safety and security. CLEEN Foundation acknowledges the critical role the Nigeria Police Force plays in maintaining internal security, safeguarding lives, and protecting property across our nation. We recognize the immense sacrifices made by police officers who, in the line of duty, face daily risks to ensure that communities are safe. We remember and honour those who have paid the ultimate price in the service of our country.
Across Nigeria, many officers continue to demonstrate professionalism and dedication while navigating an increasingly complex security landscape marked by evolving threats, ranging from organized crime and insurgency to communal conflicts and urban insecurity. This commitment is often sustained despite significant operational constraints, including limited resources, inadequate equipment, and demanding working conditions. At the same time, officers are expected to meet rising public expectations for accountability, responsiveness, and respect for human rights. In this challenging environment, the resilience and service of police personnel remain vital, as their efforts are central to maintaining public safety, upholding the rule of law, and supporting the broader stability and democratic governance of the country.
At the same time, this occasion offers a moment for reflection on the ongoing need to deepen reforms aimed at enhancing police accountability, transparency, and effectiveness. Building public trust requires sustained efforts to uphold human rights standards, improve community engagement, and ensure that misconduct is addressed promptly and transparently. A people-centered policing approach remains key to fostering legitimacy and cooperation between the police and the communities they serve. CLEEN Foundation reiterates its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote police reform, accountability, and citizen engagement. We will continue to work collaboratively with the Nigeria Police Force, government institutions, and civil society partners to advance evidence-based policies and practices that strengthen policing outcomes and public trust.
As we commemorate this day, we also call on all Nigerians to appreciate the dedication of the majority of police officers who work diligently under difficult circumstances. The task of building a safer Nigeria is a shared responsibility. We urge citizens to support police reforms, cooperate with lawful policing efforts, and engage constructively with law enforcement agencies to build the trust that is essential for effective security.
CLEEN Foundation reaffirms its solidarity with the Nigeria Police Force. We stand with you as partners in the pursuit of a safer, more just, and peaceful Nigeria. We congratulate you on this National Police Day and encourage you to remain steadfast in your commitment to service, professionalism, and the protection of all Nigerians.
Together, let us continue to build a police force that we can all be proud of.
Signed:
Mr. Peter Maduoma
Executive Director
