As part of its commitment to promoting credible elections, democratic accountability, and citizen participation in governance, CLEEN Foundation has concluded the training of accredited election observers and citizen observers ahead of the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for 20 June 2026.

The training brought together observers from across the communities and focused on election observation methodologies, ethical standards, reporting procedures, election-day observation, conflict sensitivity, and the use of technology for incident reporting. Participants were equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to observe the electoral process professionally, impartially, and independently.

Election observation remains a critical component of democratic governance, helping to build public confidence in electoral processes while promoting transparency, accountability, and peaceful participation.

For over two decades, CLEEN Foundation has played a leading role in supporting electoral integrity in Nigeria through evidence-based observation, citizen engagement, security sector accountability, and democratic governance initiatives. The Foundation’s election observation work contributes to strengthening institutions and ensuring that the voices of citizens are reflected in governance processes.

Ahead of the election, CLEEN Foundation will deploy trained observers and citizen observers across selected Local Government Areas and polling units in Ekiti State to independently observers the conduct of the security personnel during the election. The observers will assess key aspects of the electoral process, including voter accreditation, voting procedures, the conduct of election officials and security personnel, accessibility for voters, and compliance with electoral guidelines.

The Foundation will also maintain a situation room to receive, analyze, and verify reports from the field, enabling timely documentation of developments and emerging trends throughout the election period.

CLEEN Foundation calls on political parties, candidates, security agencies, electoral officials, the media, and citizens to uphold democratic values and contribute to a peaceful, inclusive, and credible electoral process. The Foundation further urges all stakeholders to reject violence, misinformation, vote-buying, hate speech, and any actions capable of undermining the will of the people.

The Ekiti Governorship Election presents another opportunity to deepen democratic consolidation in Nigeria. CLEEN Foundation remains committed to supporting citizens and institutions in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and advancing accountable governance.
