Press Statement in Commemoration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day

15th January 2020

The Board, Management and Staff of the CLEEN Foundation join the peace loving people of Nigeria to commemorate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day today. We appreciate the sacrifices of our gallant soldiers who are currently engaged in different internal security operations across the country, peacekeeping missions and those at the frontlines in the on-going insurgency in some parts of the country. We solemnly remember our fallen heroes, brave men and women of the Armed Forces of Nigeria who have paid the supreme sacrifice in the service to our Fatherland, while fighting to ensure the territorial integrity of the Nation. As we remember them today, we commit to never forget their patriotism.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria has recorded major successes despite several attacks on their personnel. The success stories and efforts collectively are often under-reported in the media and are sometimes also met with distrust by the public. These issues inform the need for more proactive measures and programmes that properly harness the relationship between civilians and security actors. Also very important is the need to set up mechanisms that pay closer attention to sustaining the families of fallen troops and appreciation for our gallant heroes. This is with a view to improving patriotism, commitment and boosting the morale of the officers and men of the Armed Forces.

While we mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day today, one thing remains sacrosanct- the welfare of soldiers and men in the forefront of operations across the country and the families of the fallen heroes should be at the heart of government’s developmental agenda. Nigerians are also encouraged to show support in diverse ways to the families of the fallen heroes. We use this historic occasion to encourage the Military to continue to put in their best and to remain resolute in the fight against terrorism.

God bless the men and officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and personnel of other sister security agencies who daily put their lives on the line to protect the Nation.

May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Signed
