CLEEN Foundation joins women all over the world to address Gender Based Violence: #NoExcuse.
Today, CLEEN Foundation joins the global community to engage a critical issue that transcends borders, cultures, and societies: gender-based violence (GBV). As an organization dedicated to engaging public safety and security, CLEEN Foundation is positioned to tackle this pervasive problem, creating a powerful movement based on solidarity and shared purpose. Our collective voice is louder and stronger than ever, as we work together to ensure a safer world for all.
According to the World Bank, in 18 out of 28 economies in Sub-Saharan Africa, the share of women and girls (15-49) who have experienced sexual violence is greater than 8.4%, irrespective of their marital status and perpetrator. Lifetime intimate partner violence (IPV) in the past year also indicates how prevalent this violence still is in society today and is globally reported on as SDG indicator 5.2.1. In Sub-Saharan Africa, adolescent girls and young women are more at risk of experiencing lifetime intimate partner violence than adult women.
While the availability of data on violence against women and girls has improved immensely in recent years and data on the prevalence of intimate partner violence is now available for at least 161 countries, there’s a lingering problem – We must implement policies that address the root causes of GBV, support survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable. Moreover, education and awareness campaigns are crucial in changing attitudes and promoting respect and equality.
As an organisation we have planned activities, both in-house and in tandem with that of our beneficiaries from the Strengthening Capacity, Advocacy and Learning Engagements (SCALE) project for Women, this is with support from the UN Women and Norwegian Embassy Women in Peace and Security in 6 states in Nigeria (Kaduna, Plateau, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa and Benue).
